Now The Great Beast Roars.
2002-04-17 : 10:35 p.m.

I wrote this for Humanities. It's in response to W.B. Yeats The Second Coming. What do you think?

Now the great beast roars

The gyre is no more

Things are apart: the center has given way

The falcon now hunts at will

Now the forces of chaos have become indistinguishable

Men are machines and machines are men

A red fire replaces the once blue calm

The crimson tide engulfs all

The time is now

The second coming is now!

Sacrifices and sacrifices!

The right cause:

Justified with vicious means

Life has no value

Be it God or Allah

Who do you die for?

Sacred lands become battlefields anew

Jerusalem cries out for its savior

Barrels role to Bethlehem: a new-born child cries

Into the cosmos the beast then strides

One last roar vanquishes the chaos and

Unnatural calm returns

Out of the great empyrean a new shape is beheld

Alas! Be this our reward?

A water bearer comes to cool our melted world

Those who preach believe our thirsts to be quenched

Yet,

What cost must we pay to drink?
