So Taboo.

You didn't really think I could resist writing did you? Of course not, so let's get on with it shall we. Wait, my CD really is missing, so if you could find it in your heart to burn me a copy of yours (which you probably got from me anyway) or "ahem" buy me a copy, that would be great, yeah.

In the course of human events we often find ourselves questioning almost every aspect of our daily lives. Today was the day that I decided to ask that proverbial "what if" question as it pertains to sex & pleasure. What if, one did not receive pleasure from sex? Seeing as how I myself am a man and how I probably fit the demographic of men who think about sex every six seconds, I feel like I should take the time to answer this question. And I assure you, every six seconds is quite the exaggeration.

The first thing that would have to come to mind would of course be reproduction. I think we all can agree that sex would primarily be used for this purpose. The next question then would be how to get aroused. This would be more difficult than normal yes, but as a man I can tell you it doesn't take a whole lot sometimes. Push comes to shove, use your imagination. Since I doubt anyone will ask me about it later, I'll then move on to ejaculation. Yes it comes from stimulation (pleasure), but in this horrid fantasy world I'm sure there would be some way to compensate. Life would find a way.

The world's population would be astronomically smaller. Nobody's going to argue that point. I don't think abortion laws would be much of an issue either. "Well you had sex so you knew what you were doing, stupid." The whole birth-control industry would be virtually non-existant. Same goes for the porn companies. Nobody's going to need that now.

I think the world would be a much more violent place though. Masturbation and/or sex is no doubt a great stress reliever. "When in doubt, whip it out." That's nice. With all that pent up pressure people would be on edge a lot more and I think we'd see more acts of harm than we normally would. We'd certainly see a lot more cases of spontaneous combustion. The sale of guns would go up. If you can't shoot your wad you might as well shoot something else. Would the Trojan War still have been fought? But on the other end, rape would also not exist, correct? Actually no, rape would still exist. There would still be those individuals who gain pleasure from hurting others more than the actual sexual pleasure.

But wait, I'm looking at this from a mostly a man's point of view, let's venture into a woman's point of view for a bit. You can act like you don't masturbate and/or have sex more than men, but we all know that's false. You do it just as often, it's just that you don't talk about it as much. A lot of the same would apply to you as well. You'd still have to go through P.M.S. but I think the aftermath would be a lot worse. Now you wait a whole week, and when you're done you want it, then and now. Without the added bonus of pleasure...well I think you get me.

Would lust exist? I think so. You can lust after more than just members of the opposite sex. It's not as if we would be without passion, we would just be without sexual gratification. The words "I Love You" would certainly hold truer than they do today. Nothing is more disgusting than those who just throw that around like a dirty penny. Human beings would still seek eachother for emotional support and comfort, there would still be a need for that. It's just that now there would be a lot less lies and a lot less broken hearts over those who do it because they were told they were loved.

I guess it would be half and half. The decreased population would certainly make living conditions and food supplies easier to come by, but who would want to live in a world full of hostile people? I guess we'll just have to live with what we've got. That's life.
